A Bullhead City councilman who pleaded guilty Wednesday to theft of more than $10,000 in insurance premiums paid to his business resigned his council seat Thursday.

Carey G. Stock, 44, had the option of staying on as a councilman until his conviction was entered at his sentencing Dec. 11. At that time, his seat would have been declared vacant.

An indictment accused him of failing to forward 54 customer premiums to the Farmers Insurance Co. of Arizona from July 1989 through March. He pleaded guilty to one count of theft.
