LAWYER ASKS JUDGE TO QUIT CASE

AP June 4, 1989

The lawyer for a Visalia family suing Farmers Insurance Co. has asked the judge who vacated a $1.5 million damages award to disqualify himself from a new trial.

Attorney William Anderson of Fresno said potential biases exist that could influence rulings by Tulare County Superior Court Judge John Moran, whose father-in-law is a member of an insurance group that holds about 23,000 shares of Farmers Insurance stock.

Anderson also said that during the trial Moran "frequently rolled his eyes, made gestures, including negative shakes of the head and facial expressions, blatantly attempting to influence the jury and discredit witnesses."
