INSURANCE FIRMS SUED BY VICTIMS OF EAST BAY FIRE

Published: Saturday, June 13, 1992

Two insurance companies have been sued by victims of last October's devastating Oakland hills fire for allegedly failing to pay for losses suffered in the blaze. Hiller Highlands Phase Three Homeowners Association, which represents the owners of a 40-unit condominium complex, filed suit against Farmers Insurance Group. The suit alleges the insurance company has paid just half of the $9 million in losses from the fire. Robert and Rita Roberts filed suit against Continental Insurance Group, claiming the company has paid just $160,000 of their $330,000 in losses. Both lawsuits were filed this week in Alameda County Superior Court. Officials for Farmers and Continental would not comment.
